CC4CC - County Cares for Children Coalition
Navajo and Apache County Arizona
Mission
This coalition is designed to build a network identifying strong community resources and to help align community outreaches for children in need.
Vision
The Establishment of a Collaboration of School District personnel and regional Family Support Agencies to help children in need.
Background
An outgrowth of the McKenny-Vento Act requiring school districts to identify and provide extended services to homeless children. Eventhough most school districts in N.E. Arizona are rural the law requires adherence to the M/V Act. With few resources to provide Ronda Sharp, Sara King, and Alfred Clark got together in the Fall of 2011 to collaborate in an attempt to support the efforts in each of their school districts. This evolved into the current group with representatives from public schools, government agencies, and regional charities. The goal is to provide support to the homeless population in the region in an attempt to end homelessness.
McKinney-Vento Act - Definition of Homelessness
The term 'homeless' or 'homeless individual or homeless person' includes - 1) an individual who lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nightime residence; and 2) an individual who has a primary nightime residene that is: a) a supervised publicly or privately operated shelter designed to provide temporary living accommodations (including welfare hotels, congregate shelters, and trasitional housing for the mentially ill); b) an institution that provides a temporary residence for individuals intended to be institutionalized; or c) a public or private place not designed for, or ordinarily used as, a regular sleeping accommodations for human beings.
